Add support for direct attached tape by updating the interface to adhere to more recent standards (Fibre Channel, Ethernet, iSCSI) to support standalone connection to Power10

Currently the external tape drive supports 8Gb/s Fibre Channel which is N-3. Updating to 16Gb/s or 32Gb/s or 64Gb/s as well as adding support for Ethernet and iSCSI connectivity is required. This will enable greater flexibility, resiliency and performance today and into the future. Many smaller clients will not add a SAN Switch to their environment due to adding complexity and cost when it is not necessary. The highest priority is Fibre Channel.

Future Tape drives will support 16Gb or higher fiber channel. There are no plans for ethernet or iSCSI support.

This request is a candidate for a future generally available (GA) release. IBM's statements regarding its plans, directions, and intent are subject to change or withdrawal without notice at IBM's sole discretion. IBM will update this request to reflect any changes.

This addendum to the request is to include tape libraries as well.
