IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Autoscaling of Storage Fusion HCI hosts for IBM Cloud Satellite

Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud Satellite supports autoscaling, however it’s limited to hosts already assigned to Cloud Satellite requiring pre-creation and allocation of host in Fusion to Cloud Satellite. In a Fusion HCI with multiple separate IBM Cloud Satellite locations, like when a MSP use a single Fusion HCI to support multiple clients with separate Cloud Satellite locations, it will result in reduced utilization - as each separate Cloud Satellite location currently requires hosts pre-attached for autoscaling to work.

A high level solution would be to create a integration between Storage Fusion HCI and IBM Cloud Satellite, where Cloud Satellite can 1. call-on Fusion HCI to check if there are unused capacity. 2. Call-on Fusion HCI to create additional hosts. 3. Automatic connect new hosts to Cloud Satellite. 4. leverage existing autoscaling for Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud Satellite. This should of course be integrated in to the existing autoscaling so no manual steps are required. It must also support multiple Cloud Satellite locations on single and multiple Fusion HCI’s. One Satellite location connecting to multiple Fusion HCI AND One/Many Fusion HCI supporting multiple Satellite location.

This would enable customer to get a similar experience as customer have with Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud VPC. It would also increase utilization of Fusion HCI.
