Taints support for Fusion Access

Capability in Fusion Access to present multiple-sized LUNs from external storage and the ability to determine which worker nodes in a single cluster have access to the various LUNs. Currently, Fusion Access requires that all externally presented LUNs be visible to all worker nodes in a cluster. Today users can leverage OpenShift taints as the mechanism to discriminate which nodes can access specific externally presented LUNs. Taints are a fundamental capability within OpenShift, and Fusion Access requires development to add toleration and support for taints to resolve this business requirement.

    Adding tolerations in IBM Fusion Access would significantly improve deployment flexibility and operational reliability in enterprise environments. Many organizations use node taints to isolate infrastructure, storage, security-sensitive, or performance-critical workloads onto dedicated nodes. Without configurable tolerations, Fusion Access components may be unable to schedule on these designated nodes, limiting deployment options and creating unnecessary operational constraints.

    In an enterprise environment, taints (paired with tolerations) are a primary mechanism for enforcing separation of duties, workload isolation, and data ownership at the infrastructure layer. They have been a part of OpenShift for over a decade.
