Backupset Enhancements 222

Backupsets as Rapid Restore Archives (RRA) contain active data only. This means it drops data unlike competitors where a version is created and then deleted, it is not archived. This is counter-intuitive. If a point-in-time policy greater than 31 days is used you can create an RRA using source data once monthly to effectively create an archive from source data that has already been moved across the wire to TSM. This is huge in the SSP space however unlike all the competition, TSM drops inactive versions making this an archive full of holes - and this is easily fixed. The other missing component is statistics. We need to be able to report archive statistics and while standard point-and-shoot archiving works with the new archive log setup in TSM 6, it forces a resend of data across the wire rather than using the data that is already housed on the server.

    While consistent with our current product direction, we cannot at this time commit to delivery of this enhancement in the next release or two. If,
    after our next release of TSM, you still would like this requirement to be re-considered, please reopen it in RFE and we will again consider it. Thank you
