Support iSCSI connection from TSM/EE to 3584 tape library

Allow the use of the iSCSI protocol to transport SCSI requests and responses over an ip network between a TSM server acting as an iSCSI client, and an automated 3584 tape library. This would allow a Linux-based TSM server built on a VMware virtual machine to communicate with an automated tape library, such as a 3584. Today, that can't be done because the iSCSI protocol is not supported by TSM Extended Edition and the fiber channel tape protocol cannot be virtualized on a VMware virtual machine.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Storage
Product - Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Family

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:

    Product family - Storage
Product - Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Family

Thank you for submitting this request. While a tape solution for VM environments is the broader use case we are exploring, doing so via iSCSI technology is not in alignment with our present strategy. TSM does have iSCSI support as documented in the following technote ( http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21408958) but the devices themselves must also claim iSCSI support. Thank you for your commitment to TSM and for your support in moving the product forward.
