Adaptive Subfile Backup support larger file sizes

Increase the maximum file size supported by SubFile backup. We have customers using TSM to backup outlook.ost files and archive*.pst files. The file size is over the 2GB limit of Adaptive Subfile Backup, but we have many of these files and they change daily. TSM should support Adaptive subfile backup for files larger than 2GB.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Storage
Product - Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Family

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Tivoli
    Product family - Storage
Product - Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Family

I think IBM should re-consider improving subfile backups in COMPLEMENT of client side deduplication. The client side deduplication require that the data is stored and stay on a file device class stgpool.

At my customers, the SubFile function is mostly used for local/remote file servers and target PST / NSF type files. The vast majority does have files larger that 2G and stgpools is composed of a hyerarchy of tape+disks, so deduplication is not always an option.

IMHO... SubFile backup is a technology that differenciate TSM from competitors (positively) and IBM should continue improving it for large file support and large subfilecache as well.

    Thanks. Pierre.

Thank you for submitting the request. This is a recognized requirement and a solution appears to be desirable.   The direction of our product
has been implementing deduplication technology for clients and servers to reduce required storage capacity that could reduce the license cost significantly.
There are currently no  plans to provide requested function.  No IBM commitment is made or implies as to the
eventual delivery of an acceptable solution.
