That the TSM AUDIT VOLUME command with the FIX=NO subcommand be enhanced to support the drive SCSI VERIFY command, that unique messaging be provided on the command output to: a) indicate that it completed with no errors; b) if there were errors, SCSI error information pertaining to the error be provided. When the SCSI VERIFY is requested, no other server AUDIT VOLUME processing operations are performed. In other words, when the SCSI VERIFY is requested, aside from the normal syntax command checking, the only function performed during this type of AUDIT is to invoke the SCSI VERIFY command and present status concerning the outcome of that command invocation. If the customer wants the traditional AUDIT VOLUME processing performed, that will be available by running the AUDIT VOLUME command without requesting the SCSI VERIFY function. SCSI VERIFY here means the implementation as documented in the SSC-4 standard which does verify from the first block on the tape through end-of-data with one command.
