IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

Allow to set SP Server Option DIRECTIO at storage pool level

In current Storage Protect server versions, the server option DIRECTIO can only be set at server level, affecting all storage pools.
We are using DISK storage pools located on AIX JFS2 file systems and FILE storage pools located on Storage Scale.
For performance reasons, FILE storage pools on Storage Scale require DIRECTIO NO, but recommendation for DISK storage pools on JFS2 is to set DIRECTIO YES.
For performance reasons, we set DIRECTIO NO. Because we still have DISK storage pools on JFS2, this results into AIX caching disk storage pool I/Os.
To mitigate the AIX JFS2 file system caching, we mounted the JFS2 file systems with the option to release cached contents after reading. But, this results in high CPU usage for the AIX "lrud" process which is responsible to manage AIX JFS2 file system caching.

Because of this, we request to implement DIRECTIO in a way that it can be set to different values for each storage pool.
