Request for Enhancement – Detailed Backup Object Metadata in IBM Storage Protect Server

Description:

Currently, the Backup‑Archive Client (dsmc query backup -detail or GUI) displays Last Modified Date, Last Accessed Date, Backup Date, and file attributes of the backup object. However, the IBM Storage Protect server (e.g., BACKUPS table, administrative commands) exposes only the Backup Date.

Risk:

Without Last Modified and Last Accessed timestamps available at the server level, administrators cannot generate centralized reports or perform server‑side analysis for point‑in‑time restore scenarios, such as during cyberattacks or when file attributes change. This limitation forces reliance on client‑side queries (dsmc query backup -detail), which is impractical in large enterprise environments.

Requirement:

Expose Last Modified and Last Accessed timestamps for backup objects through supported server interfaces such as:

  • Administrative commands

  • Server database tables/views

  • REST API

Optional Enhancement:

  • Include these attributes in query command output.

  • Extend SQL tables/views.

  • Provide via REST API for reporting and automation.

Business Advantage:

  • Centralized reporting without relying on client queries

  • Compliance and audit support made easier

  • Improved automation and reduced administrative effort

  • Consistency between Backup‑Archive Client output and server reporting
