For Storage Protect Backup/Archive client add a dsmcad systemd unit file that is instance aware.

Sometimes it is useful to run multiple dsmcad instances on a single host. Each will backup different file spaces to different tsm backup nodes. To accomplish this additional dsmcad systemd unit files must be created.

systemd unit files have this type of support built into them by using an instance aware unit file.

Running more than 1 instance of dsmcad on a host makes the ExecStopPost of the current systemd unit file useless and results in a 10 second delay when stopping any instance. The line should be removed from the existing unit file

ExecStopPost=/bin/bash -c 'let i=0; while [[ (-n "$(ps -eo comm | grep dsmcad)") && ($i -le 10) ]]; do let i++; sleep 1; done'

With the attached systemd unit file one can make options files named

/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsm.XXX.opt

and then do

systemctl enable dsmcad@XXX
systemctl start dsmcad@XXX
systemctl status dsmcad@XXX

this will show a running instance of dsmcad

 dsmcad@users.web.service - "IBM SP Client dsmcad service."
  Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/dsmcad@.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled)
  Active: active (running) since Thu 2024-07-25 06:49:38 PDT; 1s ago
 Process: 21327 ExecStart=/usr/bin/dsmcad -optfile=/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsm.%i.opt (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
   CGroup: /system.slice/system-dsmcad.slice/dsmcad@users.web.service
          └─21329 /usr/bin/dsmcad -optfile=/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsm.XXX.opt
