Backup Client for Debian Linux

Debian und viele andere Linuxdistributionen (z.B. Ubuntu, Univention, Knopix, ...) nutzen nicht das RedHat Packeage format rpm, sondern ein anderes Format namens .deb. Damit ist man bei der Erstellung der Pakete immer auf zusätzliche Konvertierungstools angewiesen, um die Pakete zu erstellen. Für viele Nutzer der weit verbreiteten Distributionen Debian, Ubuntu, etc. wäre es eine große Hilfe, wenn IBM für die aktuellen Clients jeweils konvertierte und funktionsgetestete Pakete im .deb-Format zur Verfügung stellen würde.
Zur Bedeutung: Es gibt Schätzungen, dass Debian und Ubuntu auf Webservern mindestens genauso häufig zum Einsatz kommen wie beispielsweise RedHat Enterprise Linux. Die Anfrage betrift also kein Nischenproblem. Mittlerweile hat beispielsweise VMWare die Zeichen der Zeit erkannt und stelt seine VMWare Tools bereits für Debian zur Verfügung. Es wäre schön, wenn IBM auch hier die Zeichen der Zeit erkennen würde, und entsprechend Clients für Debian zur Verfügung stellen könnte. Das könnte, wie bei anderer Open Source Software ja auch mit einer beschränkten Haftung geschehen.

    thank you for submitting this enhancement request, unfortunately we do not have any plans to provide other packaging options (other than the RPM packages), customers can use third party tools (free or commercial) to convert the RPM (redhat format) packages to Debian/Ubunto packages (.deb), the most common one is alien
