Spectrum Protect should have an oracle agent that replaces RMAN entirely, so proper object metadata can be handled internally, allow proper expeiration, retsets, etc.

Spectrum Protect has long been plagued by retention problems with Oracle backups.  RMAN owns all of the metadata, and keeping this in sync requires sync tools, etc.

In large environments, often the DBA team and the Backup team are separated.  This leads to issues maintaining the RMAN catalog, and exacerbates the cleanup problems.

IBM created DEACTIVATE DATA to help work around this; however, this can break retention when special backups are made in RMAN with different retention.

It would be nice if a new agent for Oracle backups was created that bypassed having to use RMAN.

It should work more like how the other TDP / agents work, and track all of its object names and metadata inside of the TSM DB.

This should be done in a way that retention sets make sense for the data, and regular expiration, active vs inactive, etc makes sense.
