IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

More control over "disable sessions" for client nodes

Sometimes it may be necessary to prevent clients from connecting to a Spectrum Protect Server to perform backups.

Reasons for this can be, for example, maintenance work on the Spectrum Protect Server, where access to the storage pool is not given.

For this we use the "disable session" command.

However, there are cases where we don't want to disable all client connections.

For example, we want to specifically allow a single client to carry out an important backup or restore during a Spectrum Protect Server maintenance without immediately reactivating all nodes.

Alternatively, we would generally like to allow clients to perform restores on a Spectrum Protect server during maintenance.

In principle, it would be possible to remove all client schedule associations from the scheduler before the starting mainenance (without disable sessions).

Backups are no longer carried out and restores are still possible. Backups controlled by local scripts (e.g. Oracle / SAP) would continue to run and could not be interrupted with any other method.

My suggestion:

1. Extension of the "disable/enable sessions client" command with a new option to specify whether backup/restore/all client connections are prevented

2. Extension of the "disable/enable sessions client" command with a new option to disable/enable individual client nodes
