This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

We have a IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS) file system which is HSM
managed using the IBM Spectrum Protect for Space Management client. In addition we are
using the IBM Spectrum Protect backup/archive client to backup those data, driven by the mmbackup tool from IBM Spectrum Scale.
Due to user actions it happens that HSM migrated files are in the state, that they need to be backed
up again to get a valid version into the backup pool. This is done by IBM Spectrum Scale mmbackup using filelist containing all those eligible
files. The mmbackup tool calls the IBM Spectrum Protect client "dsmc selective -filelist" command, which triggers an inline
copies on the IBM Spectrum Protect server from the spacemanagement pool to the backup pool.
These inline copy tasks are handled sequentially file by file and are not
tape optimized. This approach is inefficiently and does not scale at all.
The result is that users who did do changes in their file/directory
structure will cause massive and expensive traffic on the IBM Spectrum Protect server, which will block the daily backup mechanism for the
corresponding file system. Thus the systems will not backup the needed files in time, in case of a failure, data loss can occur due to valid file version copy on the IBM Spectrum Protect server.
What we need is a tape optimized inline copy process on the IBM Spectrum Protect server to backup the HSM migrated files in our
Spectrum Protect based backup systems.
