include/exclude a directory structure from archive

include.archive and exclude.archive options do not work for a directory structure. F.i. it is possible to exclude files from directory /exampleDir using definition 'exclude.archive "/exampleDir/*"' and also from all its subdirectories using definition 'exclude.archive "/exampleDir/.../*"' but still the directory structure of /exampleDir and its subdirectories gets archived. The idea is to add an option which excludes (or includes) the whole directory content together with the directory structure.

    Do you plan to completely get rid of archives and archive copy groups? In case of archiving of selected files which are not being backed up the functionality of direct archiving is very usefull. F.i. we use it to archive data exported from a database.

    Today you can use the backup command with the exclude.dir option in combination with retention sets to achieve long-term retention.

    Our strategic direction for long term retention / archive is through retention sets and not through archive command with SP.
