This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Stephen, thanks for your comments, and we will clear up the documentation to get this closed.
OK, there's no business reason that *requires* this. We had a Linux box available and wanted to use it. I would point out that while NFS is a Windows add-on that usually requires buying a third party product, CIFS is a natively supported protocol on Linux, so it seems a little off not to support it. But, hey, ya can't do everything!
Just clearing up the documentation so that there's no ambiguity about what's supported or not would be a good resolution.
Thanks for looking at this.

The way that the TSM Windows Backup-Archive client connects to a NetApp filer in order to provide SnapDiff function is through the CIFS protocol. I am interested to know the business reason that you need to use Linux with CIFS as opposed to using Windows with CIFS or Linux with NFS, both are available today
