As we know it is difficult for Spectrum Protect to manage dedup extents when stored or tiered to a cloud container storage pool and is a major development work, IBM developers may think of introducing this functionality which may be quicker and easier to develop.

Allow Spectrum Protect users to backup business and mission critical data to a Storage pool of File device class type and the ability to either create a second copy or option to Tier the data by Age/State to S3 compatible cloud object storage in an incremental block level transfer fashion, quite similar to how it works in Spectrum Protect Plus.

There is also a possibility to introduce "Retention Set" for file device class with option to offload to Cloud immutable bucket.
