IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

More ways to get occupancy on data en dedup storage

In a hosted environment it would be nice, if there were several different/more advanced ways to get occupancy amount for data stored in deduplication storage pools.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Storage
Product - Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Family
Component - TSM & TSM EE (Server)
    Operating system - Multiple
Source - BRaaS - Backup and Restore as a Service

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software

Both query auditocc (node & pooltype) and query occupancy (filespace and storage pool) need to support deduplication for use in charge back reporting.

Thank you for submitting the request. This is a recognized requirement and a solution appears to be desirable and feasible.  IBM intends to provide a solution in the next major release in 2013.
However, IBM’s plans may change and no commitment is made that a solution will be provided.

Use Case 2) data is also important for estimating how much data will be transmitted to a remote site when using node replication. Right now there's no way to accurately estimate the amount of data that will be replicated from a source storage pool that is using deduplication.

To make this request more useful for node replication estimation, there also would need to be a way to get the information mentioned in Use Case 2) with slightly different input . The input for the calculation should allow for multiple nodes and node groups to be considered at one time. Not everyone uses node groups but would still need to see the aggregated information for multiple nodes. In addition, there should be an option for getting the results for either all data or for active data only. While this is node replication specific, the information generated would have a direct use for the budgeting of and planning for the storage that would need to be implemented to support node replication on a remote site.
