Migration plans for cloud offload data in SPP

Customers looking to make use of cloud offload generally have archival of snapshots in mind. This particular customer is currently using CloudA today may want move to CloudB sometime in the future.

Currently when a cloud destination is changed in SPP 10.1.3, it requires the customer to run a base backup to that cloud while requiring they preserve the previous cloud for legacy restores.

Customer is looking for a cloud migration plan, specifically to support the multi-cloud environment, and especially as there are cloud replication utilities to move data between clouds that are evident even in COS.

    This request may not be delivered within the release currently under development, but the theme is aligned with the current multi-year strategy. IBM may consider and evaluate any RFE Community feedback for this request through activities such as voting. IBM will update this request in the future.

    I'd love to see this too. A logical way might be to allow a DEFINE STGRULE for tiering to use a cloud pool for the SRCPOOL.

    Anything else would require more hefty changes to MOVE CONTAINER, or some new MIGRATE CONTAINER command (or folding things into the legacy commands).
