Customer Societe Generale is one of our top 5 TSM banking customer in France. Recently, they encountered a data corruption situation on ORACLE database backups due to hardware issues. They want to implement a process to check regularly (by sample) that Database backup integrity is correct. They do not want to setup TSM CRC controls on all storage pools (too much resource consuming for dozens of managed TB) and also do not want to use validate protocol on TSM client/server sessions (hundreds of session each day).
So far, ORACLE and DB2 environments provide convenient ways to checks integrity thru RMAN (for ORACLE) and DB2 options. The customer wants a similar behavior for his SQL Server environment, and thus expect our TSM for Database/TDP for SQL Server agent to implement the "BACKUP WITH CHECKSUM" option available from MS SQL server (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms186865.aspx ).
Also, the customer does not want to be obliged to restore physically the SQL Database and then check integrity with a tool (which would require a complex environment setting not convenient to check randomly database backups). I opened another requirement for that on "RESTORE VERIFYONLY" option).
So this requirement is to have TDP for SQL Server use the BACKUP with CHECKSUM option.
