Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance Backup

Customers are migrating SQL databases to Azure, running them either as Azure SQL Databases or Azure SQL Managed Instances. There is no IBM documentation which acknowledges whether any of the Spectrum Protect products support backup of SQL PaaS in Azure, therefore I am assuming it is not supported at present.

Azure already provide a high degree of backup and recovery within Azure, however a method of backing up SQL to a target outside Azure would be good (especially if egress charges can be controlled with incremental forever SPP type backups can be implemented).

Commvault have documented their approach. If Spectrum Protect can already support SQL PaaS, then it should at least be documented.

    This request may not be delivered within the release currently under development, but the theme is aligned with the current multi-year strategy. IBM may consider and evaluate any RFE Community feedback for this request through activities such as voting. IBM will update this request in the future.
