IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

TSM Fastback Server has extremely slow read operations from disk

TSM Fastback Server has extremely slow read operations from disk:
- all restore operations with both methods, Fastback Mount and Fastback BMR,
- DR to TSM and
- long term proxy backups to TSM.
The speed of restore does not exceed 10Mbit/s (aggregate) on the system equipped with 2 Gbit NICs in a Team. For example, copying 6 GB big file from a Fastback mounted volume to a local disk takes more than 4 hours.
Backup is doing better, with speeds up to 180Mbit/s, but without dedup it is even better - up to 500Mbit/s . The repository is a dedup volume on SAN disks.
All read operations are working slow and the DR is not working at all, because the system cannot transfer the files in the "free" timeframe, thus dedup is not useful, because you cannot wait for a system to restore more than one day.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Storage
Product - Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Family

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Tivoli
    Product family - Storage
Product - Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Family
