Working OOtB Spectrum Protect Client for Ubuntu

System: SpectrumProtect Client for Ubuntu Linux.
Actor: System administrator requesting to share some improvements with the world.

Solution:
-----------
If IBM's .deb packages would
1. use more features that the .deb format offers,
2. be downloadable from a package repository,
then all the problems described below would disappear.

Problems Solved:
---------------------
Currently, installation of the packages on multiple servers requires manual intervention or scripting by the administrator.

The installation fails if the requirements are not yet present.

After installation, the scripts that should start (and stop) the backup/archive client service do not work.

The journaling feature requires extra commands to compile a kernel module. Moreover, whenever a new kernel is installed, the journaling feature breaks without notice, until these commands are repeated.

Action by IBM requested
------------------------------
IBM doesn't appear to offer the .deb packages from a package repository. Will it? If not, will if allow anyone else (.e.g. us) to put the packages in such a repository, and to make them accessible to all the world?

Will IBM copy contributions like working start/stop scripts and automatic compilation of kernel modules into its own packages? If not, will IBM allow others to offer modified versions of the official packages, from a package repository like described above?
