IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Spectrum Protect Plus: Improvement suggestion for the Restore-OpenShift function "Restore to alternate cluster"

System: IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Server

Spectrum Protect Plus is used to secure the various OpenShift clusters. In the event of a disaster recovery, it is a common scenario that the saved status of the defective cluster has to be transferred to an alternative cluster.

Description: In Spectrum Protect Plus, the restore functionality is very cumbersome if the data backed up on an OpenShift cluster is to be restored to an alternate cluster.

In a first restore job, all PVCs in the namespaces to be transferred must be manually searched and marked so that the storageclass names applicable to the new cluster can be adapted on the "set destination" page. If there is only one normal resource in the selection list, it's not possible to select the new Storageclasses.
Afterwards, in a second restore job, all the desired namespaces must be searched again and the resources contained therein must be marked. With a growing number of saved namespaces, it is easy to overlook some PVCs or resources.

Improvement suggestion for the Restore-OpenShift function "Restore to alternate cluster":

1. It should be possible to mark the namespaces to be restored on the other clusters at the namespace level .
2. If the "Restore to alternate cluster" option is selected, SPP should automatically analyzes all the components (PVCs and resources) contained in the marked namespaces in order to determine the associated storage classes
3. On an additional page, you can enter all the corresponding names on the target cluster for the storage classes found on the source cluster.
4. SPP should then automatically generate two restore jobs in which the PVCs are transferred first and then the resources.

Advantage for the user:
All the user has to do is select the namespaces to be restored and perform the not very extensive mapping for the target cluster for the storage classes used in them.
