Need web client support in IBM Spectrum Protect V8.1.2 or later server.

Web client is extensively used in our environment ( TSM 8.1.1). To fix bugs that are impacting user jobs, TSM will be upgraded to V8.1.3 in the near future.

My Spectrum Protect clients has complained about the removing the web client interface. The deprecation of this interface has angry the customers.
There are a lot of environments, even windows (core installation) environment, that nowadays do not have the possibility to start x-windows session.
The customer are going to have into account this new limitation, that other do not have.

We have an entire Operations team that do user restores using the Web client to take workload off other areas.
They follow extensively documented procedures that will be a massive workload to update.

This is definitely a barrier for us upgrading to v7.1.8+ or v8.1.3+

I require the Web client GUI to query the TOC of NDMP backup dumps and then selectively restore files out of the dump.

The normal GUI (dsm.exe) is not able do restores for NDMP backups.

Command line NAS restores require multiple commands (QUERY TOC, QUERY NASBACKUP, RESTORE NODE) in order to gather all the information required for a Point-in-Time restore of a specific folder/file from TOC to an alternate location. It took me roughly 2 hours to get a working "RESTORE NODE" command compared to 2 minutes in the Web Client GUI.

But this is no replacement for the WEBGUI NDMP restore function.

Without this function, we can not update to Version 7.1.8 or 8.1.3.

Our customer need the web-Client GUI for two reasons:
    A) restore-Opersations can be performed without login in (as admin) on the client.
    and, maybe even more important:
    B) restore on Linux / unix / AIX-Clients. For these clients using the full GUI-Client requires an X-Windows env. Not practicable.

We are getting *very* bad response from our clients after the web-client was removed. They are very much annoyed by IBM's chuzpe of taking away such an important feature during a "small" upgrade (8.1.2 -> .4) and offering no replacement.

This is Fabricio Cardoso, an IBM Tivoli Spectrum Protect user from Brazil. We definetely need web client support back because we constantly make use of file level NAS restores from NDMP backups through that interface. Customers that use linux clients, which account for more than half of our IT infrastructure, also benefit greatly from it for file restoration. Please, consider making it available again or coming up with an equivalent solution.

Web client GUI is currently the only method to query the TOC of NDMP backup dumps and then selectively restore files out of the dump.

The normal GUI is not able do restores for NDMP backups.
On the dsmadmc commandline there is no way to look into a TOC of a NDMP dump. If you know exactly the time of the version of a file you want to restore, you can do with the "node restore .. filelist=" command.

But this is no replacement for the WEBGUI NDMP restore function.

Without this function we can not update to Version 7.1.8 or 8.1.3.

Just to clarify for others coming by this item, the dsmcad web client is the issue.

dsmserv, dsmc, and dsmadmc all use a new SSL method, which is effectively mandatory.

dsmj does not support this, because dsmcad would have to manage certificates, etc. like dsmserv does.

A lot of client are disappointed with no GUI available. Most of them said me they will replace by another backup solution if GUI is not available... you know what you have to do.
