Backing up and Restoring VMs that have independant disks allocated to them

Short notes:
TSM for VE will backup and restore and VM with zero dependent disks. The data will not be on the disks, but the VM will backup and restore with the disks in place. SPP simply fails the job if there are no dependent disks.

TSM for VE will backup and restore a disk with a mix of dependent/independent disks and the independent disks will be restored (without data, but they will be restored to the VM). SPP will not restore those independent disks.
-----------------------------------------------------
Details:
In Spectrum Protect for VE they are able to backup a VM with zero dependent disks. If they restored the VM it was restored in vSphere with the disks setup as well as all other settings pertaining to the VM. Obviously no data on the disks are restored but they are created at the server level in vSphere. In SP4VE they can also backup and restore a server with a combination of dependent and independent disks. If we restore the server, again all disks are restored into the VM but only the dependent disks have data.

What they have found with Spectrum Protect Plus is that it will not backup a VM with zero dependent disks. Also, when restoring a VM that has some dependent and some independent disks, the VM is restored but the independent disks are not put back into the VM as they are with SP4VE.
