Change TSM Server-based Library Manager behaviour

Please change the behaviour of the TSM Server-based acting in a library manager only role to not require read/write access to the tape drives during normal operations. Currently, TSM server performing library manager only function (no servicing backup clients), is required to verify labels of the cartridges when they are mounted/dismounted per requests of the library clients. This leads to a need to have Library Manager to have access to all tape drive resources in a managed library. Please consider removing this requirement to eliminate the issue described in the use case. Please note that the function of the library manager is to manage cartrdige inventory and issue commands to the library, not read/write to tapes, except, possibly, special one-time operations like, for example, labelling the tapes.

    We have increased the drive count limits since the creation of this request so this should have provided some relief. However, there still do not have plans to deliver support as requested in the next release or two of TSM. If you would like us to reconsider this request after our next product release, please open a new request.

    thank you for submitting this enhancement request, while we currently do not have plans to deliver this function in an upcoming release it will be considered for a future release of TSM
