With IBM withdrawing from marketing their ProtecTIER VTL solution our company is now faced with the undesirable option of moving a petabyte of storage in Virtual Tape to directory container pools. This affects over 2000 nodes that have monthly backup sets created. When management realizes that IBM Spectrum Protect can not make backup sets out of the directory container pools, the use of IBM spectrum Protect will be revaluated and I will possibly be forced to move away from the product entirely. This is a serious issue that will affect all IBM Spectrum Protect customers who use IBM ProtecTIER VTL products.
This request may not be delivered within the release currently under development, but the theme is aligned with the current multi-year strategy. IBM may consider and evaluate any RFE Community feedback for this request through activities such as voting. IBM will update this request in the future.
