IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Backup of TSM / Spectrum Protect Directory Container Pools

The new directory container storage pools are unable to perform migrations to other storage pools.

This can be "hacked", if you will, by backing up the directory container files themselves to another storage pool that can migrate to tape devices. However, this is unsupported and difficult to coordinate in a DR-safe way.

If the new directory containers had the ability to migrate to other storage pools *without* losing the advantages of the new deduplication and compression systems built into directory container pools, these would allow for massively scalable disk pools without the worry of disaster should that disk pool fail.

Replication doesn't solve the issue if customer requirements require an offline copy of data. Rehydrating the data to move to tape removes all of the benefits of the new storage containers.

I was not aware of this feature, I believe this covers the missing features needed for safe operation. Thanks for the update!

Are you aware of the new COPY TO TAPE function for directory containers delivered in version 7.1.7?
