This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

In the DP for VMware vCenter plug-in we provided, an administrator can create TSM schedules on the TSM server so this capability is not lost. There is also reporting capabilities in this interface to see when backups have failed or alternatively, one could use the TSM Operations Center v7.1.1 to easily see the status of scheduled backup operations including those for DP for VMware environments. Learn more on the scheduling options with v7.1.1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ2ilH6Xmj0.
In a hosted scenario, we prefer to use central scheduling - that is let all backups be controlled by the TSM server. This way we can easily see if any backups at customer sites have run OK - or if any have failed.
I have not yet checked the vCenter plugin, but if local scheduling is used in this one for doing backups, we loose the ability to check scheduled events on the TSM server in order to find out whether the backup has run or not - and if it was OK or failed. That is why it is essential to us, that we still can schedule the jobs from the TSM server.
Thanks for submitting this enhancement request, we have done a lot of work around simplifying the configuration options for VMware backups, the recent TSM for VE 6.3 have also introduced a new UI (vCenter Plugin) that can be utilized to either configure backups or monitor backup statuses. while we will continue to work on simplifying configurations and scheduling for complex environments (like the one you're describing in this RFE) we are not likely to implement a full scripting solution for the client scheduling, portions of this requirement can be met by utilizing an external scripting tool for doing the scheduling. We will keep this as an uncommitted candidate for a future release.
