This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - Storage
Product - Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Family
For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
Brand - Tivoli
Product family - Storage
Product - Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Family
As our team considers ways to address this requirement with future plans, could you please indicated whether this request is in relation to the backup of the TSM server database or is it in relation to a backup of DB2 in general? If we don't receive a response within 30 days, we will close this request with information not provided(though we are continuing to track this internally as something we definitely are considering as server scale grows).
As we consider this implementation, can you please clarify if it is the backup of the TSM database that is the primary concern in this case?
Thank you in advance for the information.
Thank you for your request and our apologies for the great delay in response. We are currently investigating the best way to improve the problem referred to in this request. Although we do not have a solution currently in plan, this is an important topic that we would like to address when we can fit this in to our strategic planning. This does not represent a commitment to deliver this function since strategic plans can change. We will update the RFE when we have a final decision.
We have noticed that DB2 is backing up the allocated disk space rather than the used blocks on disk space.
For example:
We have a database using DMS, which has occupied 280GB on disk / filesystem
The "actual" used blocks are less than 100GB.
The space sent by DB2 backup are: 280GB
