When you read it, look at this statement:

Note: It is not required to power off the virtual machine to change the CBT configuration as taking and deleting a snapshot can apply these settings. The API call configSpec.changeTrackingEnabled = new Boolean(true); can enable/disable CBT on the fly. For more information, see API 5.5 Documentation.

Veeam does this. You should. They have a competitive advantage in helping a customer getting out of this mess (that vSPhere introduced, mind you) more efficiently.

If you do not do this. We would have to power cycle each and every (hundreds to thousands) VM that requires this workaround if we cannot use the vSphere API.
