While the solution may not be implemented via a LANfree backup to GPFS as described, a future release will address the use case of this requirement, which is inline client-side dedup with scale.

It is a good idea. In environments like TSM for VE, the physical proxies nodes could be members of GPFS cluster and write via SAN and deduplication at the same time. In large environemts, it could be a great point to improve the performance for full backups.
