Moving the TSM Server parameter DIRECTIO NO from a server-wide option into a device class specific parameter

The Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) server will, by default, use non-buffered I/O bypassing the file system cache. By specifying the server option DIRECTIO NO within the dsmserv.opt, this behavior can be changed – means TSM is using the file system cache. Using this option is more or less a mandatory setting when using GPFS (IBM Spectrum Scale) or Elastic Storage Server as storage pool for TSM in order to achieve maximum performance. Because of the fact that this setting is a server-wide option, the behavior is changed for all storage pools, no matter if the storage pool is based on a GPFS file system or any other (e.g. JFS2, ext4, NTFS file systems). By moving the DIRECTIO NO parameter from a server-wide option into a device class specific parameter, we would have the possibility to optimize storage pool configuration depending on the file system used for.

IBM may consider and evaluate any RFE Community feedback for this request through activities such as voting. IBM will update this request in the future.
