Storage Copy Data Management should support authentication using RedHat IDM

We are using a lot of IBM products and we use a RedHat based IdM (LDAP) server for centralized user-management. The information in LDAP decides what systems someone can login too, and also which role/permissions they get.

This works for IBM products like SAN switches, storage, HMC, PowerVC, tape libraries as well as Linux virtual machines. We just cannot get it to work with Storage Copy Data Management.

IBM support says we have to use a product that supports RFC 2307 (like Microsoft Active Directory), we would like it to support RFC 2307bis as well; even though our IPA server says it runs in compatibility mode, Storage Copy Data Manager still cannot work with it.

Switching to Active Directory is a no-go for us, and returning to individual, local user accounts doesn’t seem like a good idea security-wise.
