Offline/manual install of Defeder Sensors in VMs

Defender Sensors are currently only installable from the DRS UI. Installation/upgrade from DRS require network connectivity and FW openings from the on-premises Connection Manager(s) directly or through a Defender Sensor Control node to the VM(s) where the Sensor should be installed.

  • For many customers with segmented networks or high security deployments, this is not acceptable.

  • In addition the Defender Sensors have dependencies on other SW components (ssh/ansible) that a customer may want to install or manage themselves

  • And some customers require that all SW should be installed using SW distribution tools or be part of OS images that are deployed.

Therefore allowing customers to install the sensor manually in an offline fashion on a VM is required. Supporting this will allow adoption of one of Defender DRS most important and unique feature far more acceptable than it currently is.
