Enable Password Expiry Visibility in Storage Defender

Storage Defender currently lacks a feature to display or monitor password expiry dates for user accounts. This limitation affects all account types, including both individual user accounts and functional accounts used for automation and integration.

Business Impact

  • Automation Failure: Functional accounts used in reporting, API calls, and integrations silently fail when passwords expire.

  • User Access Issues: Individual users may be locked out without warning, affecting productivity and requiring manual intervention.

  • Operational Downtime: Monitoring tools, backup systems, and scheduled jobs may break due to expired credentials.

  • Troubleshooting Overhead: Failures caused by expired passwords are often discovered only after impact, increasing support workload.

  • Compliance Risk: Lack of visibility into password lifecycle undermines security policies and audit readiness.

Proposed Solution

  • Display password expiry date in the user management interface for all account types.

  • Include expiry metadata in API responses for account details.

  • Enable alerts or notifications for upcoming expirations.

  • Optionally allow password expiry exemption or extension for designated service accounts.

Value to Customers

This feature would:

Ensure reliable operation of automated and user-driven systems.

Support security compliance through proactive credential management.

Reduce support costs and improve user experience.

Align Storage Defender with enterprise IAM best practices.
