IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

Defender Data Protect (DDP) Configuration Backup

Why is it useful?

A DDP configuration backup is essential for quick recovery and business continuity in isolated environments without a remote cluster. Without it, a DDP server failure means manual re-configuration and re-onboarding, leading to significant downtime and data protection gaps. A backup enables fast, accurate restoration, minimizing recovery time and reducing operational burden.

Who would benefit from it?

Organizations using DDP in isolated or "island" environments: These lack automatic redundancy.

IT Administrators and Operations Teams: They'll see less effort and stress during recovery.

Security and Compliance Teams: Ensures compliance and strong security posture.

Business Units reliant on DDP-protected data: Benefit from faster recovery and less data exposure.

How should it work?

The solution should feature:

Automated Scheduled Backups: Regular, automated backups of all critical DDP configuration files and metadata.

Secure Storage: Backup files must be stored securely off-system with encryption.

Version Control & Retention: Maintain multiple backup versions with configurable retention policies.

Easy Restore: A straightforward, guided process to restore configurations.

Alerting & Reporting: Clear alerts and reports on backup status.

This provides a vital layer of protection for DDP environments, enhancing resilience and simplifying recovery

Can you tell us more about the use case for this idea? Is this in the case of losing a cluster? or what is the scenario? Is the Data Management Service (DMS) involved? What is the expected data behavior for the backup data?
