Introduce AI-Powered Storage Tier Optimization and Intelligent Data Lifecycle Automation for IBM Storage CEPH

Many enterprise organizations manage rapidly growing volumes of structured and unstructured data across AI workloads, cloud-native applications, virtualization platforms, analytics, and backup environments. As storage environments continue to expand, administrators face increasing challenges in optimizing storage utilization, managing data growth, and ensuring that data is stored in the most appropriate storage tier while maintaining performance, availability, and cost efficiency.

I propose introducing AI-Powered Storage Tier Optimization and Intelligent Data Lifecycle Automation as a native capability within IBM Storage Ceph. This enhancement could leverage Artificial Intelligence, predictive analytics, and intelligent policy-based automation to help organizations optimize storage resources, simplify data lifecycle management, and improve overall storage efficiency across enterprise environments.

The proposed capability could automatically analyze storage usage patterns, workload behavior, data access frequency, and capacity trends to intelligently classify data as hot, warm, or cold. It could provide AI-powered storage tier recommendations, predictive capacity forecasting, intelligent lifecycle policy suggestions, storage utilization insights, workload-aware optimization recommendations, automated data placement guidance, and comprehensive dashboards that help administrators proactively manage enterprise storage environments while aligning with organizational policies and performance requirements.

Such a capability would be especially valuable for organizations managing large-scale Hybrid Cloud, AI, analytics, virtualization, and cloud-native workloads by helping storage administrators reduce manual management effort, optimize storage utilization, improve infrastructure efficiency, and ensure that business-critical data remains available on the most appropriate storage tier.

Adding an AI-Powered Storage Tier Optimization and Intelligent Data Lifecycle Automation capability would further strengthen IBM Storage Ceph by improving storage efficiency, simplifying enterprise storage operations, optimizing infrastructure costs, enhancing workload performance, supporting intelligent data lifecycle management, and helping organizations build more scalable, efficient, and future-ready software-defined storage environments.
