This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Some Spectrum Scale commands can take a long time to run, such as mmapplypolicy, mmrestripefs, mmecheckquota. These might be run manually, or started by cron a batch system, or a callback. But sometimes, once started, there is a need to stop the command before it is finished. Control-C might stop it (not clear from docs) but waiters continue, and sometimes the fsmanager is continuing the operation. Besides, it isn't always clear where a command is running, if you wanted to control-c it (or use sigintr).
So there needs to be a documented command for an end user to see what long-running commands are running, what there state is (running, stopping, etc.), and some way to request one of these commands to stop "as soon as safely possible".
If this could be made even more general: maybe allow pause/resume of a command, altering the QoS and set of helper nodes being used, provide some measure of performance impact of the command, and dare I say it - an estimate of completion time.
