This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

The TSM BA client dsmc by default includes everything in the backup domain (defaults to all local filesystems), optionally allowing one to exclude paths and even re-include paths that would by excluded by previous rules. There are two mechanisms for excluding paths within a filesystem:
EXCLUDE
EXCLUDE.DIR
The latter only works with directories, but paths that are excluded with EXCLUDE.DIR can never be re-included, while paths excluded with EXCLUDE can be re-included. For instance, this would support a default-exclude policy for a filesystem, include home directories, and also allow users to create directories called "nobackup" anywhere in the gpfs1 filesystem and have them excluded from backups, even if they're in home directories:
EXCLUDE.DIR nobackup
INCLUDE /gpfs/gpfs1/home/.../*
EXCLUDE /gpfs/gpfs1/.../*
Unfortunately, while this would work with the native TSM BA client, mmbackup treats EXCLUDE.DIR the same as EXCLUDE and will actually include all paths underneath /gpfs/gpfs1/home even if they're called "nobackup".
The RFE would involve updating mmbackup include/exclude rule processing to match the handling with the TSM BA client.
