preallocating space in a file running an AFM cache isn't supported at present.

This is partially documented here:

At least it mentions gpfs_preallocate. I assume the linker is indirectly calling this when calling posix_fallocate. We have found a local workaround for compilation to change the behaviour of the linker, but I think this is pretty poor that we are not able to compile code using the new(ish) ld.gold linker without having to hack the way the linker works.
