IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Need a Spectrum Scale filesystem Maintenance mode (JUMP Trading LLC)

Currently, Spectrum Scale does not have a maintenance mode that can disable operations at the cluster or file system level. This is especially true for large multi cluster configurations that span
multiple sites, where maintenance on the storage cluster can be
interrupted by commands run on the remote cluster(s). These
interruptions can lead to hangs and NSD down situations.

We need a way to:

1. Disable file system mounts to keep remote clusters from
mounting while maintenance is occurring".

2. Start up a NSD Server Cluster, confirm all nodes
are active in GPFS, and then administratively allow nodes
to mount file systems, preferably on a per file system basis.
For example if one set of NSD servers has issues this would
allow us to put other file systems in the same NSD Server
Cluster into production

3. Disable file system access before shutting down NSD cluster
so that disks are not marked down in file systems during the
shutdown

The implementation of a maintenance mode can be used to simplify maintenance and reconfiguration tasks. This mode would be used to disable operations that would interrupt or might be adversely affected by the maintenance or reconfiguration tasks. If a cluster or filesystem was in maintenance mode, specific operations would be prevented to avoid disruption until the maintenance mode was turned off.

Product - Spectrum Scale (formerly known as GPFS) - Public RFEs
    Component - Product functionality

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:

This RFE's Headline was changed after submission to reflect the headline of an internal request we were already considering, but will now track here.
