IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

Is it possible to enable greater than 512 kNFS threads in CNFS? Ideally, the client would like to set the thread count to a max of 4096 (up from the 512 limit).

MLP has requested that IBM enable the ability to test with more than 512 kNFS threads in CNFS due to performance issues observed in their environment.  Specifically, MLP wants to increase the thread count to 2048 or 4096.   MLP is aware that CNFS is on the list of deprecated features.  https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/STXKQY/pdf/scale_deprecated_features.pdf.   However, MLP has observed workloads that exhibit inferior performance under Ganesha (CES) versus kernel NFSd.  MLP advised that they switched from CNFS to CES for workloads in the specific cluster and noted the performance difference.

FROM SCALE DEVELOPMENT -

Currently, the Scale CLI is limiting that to 512, is a check in the mmchconfig script.   In summary, it sets /proc/fs/nfsd/threads.  Client is asking if this can be worked around, with the understanding that IBM cannot test/support against a higher value.
