IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Scale Storage Native Driver for Mainframe zOS

We are trying to get access to the mainframe storage on the midrange end to allow Data and AI tools like Content Aware Storage and Watson Knowledge Catalog. Following are the gaps:

1. There is no native driver for zOS. Current support is limited to NFS and we need to enforce NFS with kerberos due to security requirements.  All current documentation is limited to zLinux which is not the same as zOS.

2. Kerberos, AD, LDAP integrations for UUID, GUID etc dont work seamlessly between zOS and Linux. Due to this, the authentication mechanism for tokens dont work properly.

3. As we scale up the solution, it only works in POC and breaks constantly in LLE or Production lanes.

4. The kernel upgrades for zLinux are a mess since we need to upgrade GPFS and then Compile it in Production which is again a security risk.

We need a Native zOS client and server setup to expand the GPFS capabilities. This will allow us to open the mainframe metadata to the existing metadata management toolkits that IBM is supplying for a richer experience and end to end data discovery, transformation and solutioning.
