IBM System Storage Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Increase the DS8000 TCT throughput per dataset

Customer is using DS8K TCT with HSM in mainframe to have a 3rd copy of data in the IBM Cloud (COS).
They are using 3 DS8K boxes and the total throughput they can achieve is not enough to send the data generated in the last 24h every day.
The limitation comes from :
R9.0.x code has a limitation of 6 threads per CEC. Determination of which CEC will use the threads is based on the source or target LCU (odd and even LCUs to go different CECs).
In R9.1, we increased the number of threads per CEC from 6 to 20 via CMVC 344422.
Future enhancements to partition each file when sending it to the cloud and thus increase the transfer speed per file have no target date yet.
Even with CMVC 344422 they will not have enough throughput as some datasets are very big and they have a limit of 50Mbps per dataset.
Migration vs. Recall:
1. Currently, migration is limited to a single thread per dataset.
2. Recall, however, has the capability to recall the dataset in parallel with multiple threads per dataset. This is in addition to the 6/20 tasks
So we'd like that migrations could also work similar ro recall.
that can. be done in parallel per CEC.
