Enable multiple local user accounts alongside LDAP authentication on DS8000 (hybrid model)

Currently, DS8000 only allows a single local Administrator account as a fallback on LDAP. While this is useful for recovery, it is not sufficient for real production use.

In practice, customers rely on several technical and service accounts to operate their environments, including:

  • Copy Services Manager (CSM) for Metro Mirror, HyperSwap, and DR operations
  • IBM Spectrum Control for monitoring
  • IBM support access
  • Customer generic/service accounts that cannot always be managed in LDAP due to governance constraints

For these reasons, we would like to request the possibility to support a hybrid authentication model on DS8000.

More specifically, we are asking for:

  • LDAP to remain the primary authentication method
  • The ability to keep a limited number of customer-managed local accounts active in parallel
  • These accounts to be used for technical and operational purposes (CSM, monitoring, support)
  • Role-based restrictions configurable by the customer
  • Full auditability and clear distinction between LDAP and local logins
  • An optional feature, controlled through policy

This capability would greatly improve operational resilience, reduce risk in DR scenarios, and enable customers to adopt LDAP in a safe and controlled way.
