Increase number of logical volumes to be used on DS8K beyond 64K

Problem description: Extend the amount of logical volumes that can be hosted by one physical DS8K machine
Current workaround:

a.) spend a lot of mandays in order to consolidate multiple logical (!) volumes to less logical (!) volumes.

b.) spend quite some money and purchase additional DS8K box

The IBM strategy for increasing the capacity scalability for z/OS is the use of larger logical volumes and the use of software tools such as zDMF and HSM to enable consolidation.
