This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM System Storage products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Having CSM integrated onto the DS8000 HMCs has been very helpful for a number of clients. Currently, however, it is only possible for a client to upgrade CSM to a desired level via the external DSCLI. For most clients that use CSM on the HMC, this means that the the external DSCLI is only used for this single task. Thus, a CSM upgrade requires an external DSCLI installation and that installation requires Java to also be installed on the OS. Typically a client would only upgrade CSM once or twice a year. Therefore, requiring a client to install a suitable version of Java and the external DSCLI for this is a burden. Providing the ability to upgrade the CSM on the HMC via the DSGUI or the DSCLI that is embedded into the DSGUI will make CSM upgrades significantly easier for these types of clients.
Since the FlashSystem GUI integrates the ability to do a FlashSystem SW upgrade and the newest versions of the DSGUI also provides the capability for a user to do an DS8000 LMC upgrade, it is hopefully possible to integrate similar capability for a CSM upgrade. Alternatively, since the embedded DSCLI in the DSGUI already provides the ability to upgrade and run CLI scripts, hopefully that might be another method for upgrading CSM.
