Allow the ability to stop a FlashCopy session (Storage Virtualize Family)

When managing FlashCopy sessions (not volume group based) from CSM, the only available commands for any given FC session are:

  • Discover

  • Start

  • Flash

  • Restore

  • Terminate

surprisingly, the ability of stopping a session is missing. You can terminate it, but this action removes the consistency group and the FlashCopy mappings, which is not suitable if you intend to just stop it and resume later, which is a hinderance specially if you intend to create a scheduled task-based automation. Would be great if the ability of stopping FC sessions was added to future releases.

Responded directly in the IDEA. Will not be looking at implementing this feature. Use Incremental or Terminate.

Can you explain your use case for this? When exactly would you want to Stop the FC consistency group? If you don't want the background copy you could just set the copy rate to 0 on the session properties. Otherwise, I'm not clear on why you'd ever want to stop the FC itself....other than a terminate.
